I own a B. Makowski handbag made of soft glove leather, it’s a beautiful bag, BONE WHITE…what was I thinking. Anyway it has gotten pretty dirty I have quit using it because of the dirt. I have tried using a leather cleaner it doesn’t work the leather absorbs the cleaner. Blue die from my jeans have also rubbed off onto the purse. PLEASE HELP

'Designer' handbags in Turkey – are they real leather or a scam?

Has anyone ever bought a ‘Designer’ handbag from Turkey? Because on a recent holiday there, I was coaxed into buying a ‘Chanel’ handbag. The guy selling it to me in the shop insisted it was leather, and put a lighter flame up to the bag to prove it was leather…but I am dubious. As it is a fake, I suspect it is not really leather…it does not smell like leather, but it feels soft and looks like leather. How else can you tell if a handbag is leather? There is no tag stating so, and I am scared to use my own lighter to test it just in case he owned a special ‘designer handbag scamming lighter’

I am aware that it is not Chanel – it seemed obvious considering the price I paid and where I bought it – I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how you can test if something really is genuine leather?
Is there any way to make soft, pliable leather stiffer & more rigid? ?

I have a handbag that is made from very soft, supple leather. Problem is, when I set the bag down the sides collapse to the point where the contents tend to spill out over the top. I know, I know, if I’d keep the zipper closed that wouldn’t happen but everything inside gets so jumbled around inside this bag because of the supple leather. Anyway…just curious that there may be a way to stiffen up the leather without ruining it.
